Lloyd Cole was the leader of The Commotions between 1982 and 1987. As a band, they published three albums, but in the 90’s Cole started his solo career. He moved to New York where he experimented with several music styles. During that time, he went through different stages of inspiration that also led to periods where he felt fed up with music and wanted to quit. Yet, thanks to a Bob Dylan record he decided not to do it.
In his ninth and last album (whose title comes from a nonsense joke), Lloyd Cole achieves one of the most solid albums of his career, confirming that even though he lives in the States, he is still one of the most representative artists of Brit pop.
Here there is an excellent acoustic version of Diminished Ex, from his last album Standards.
