Basic math:

Consummate artist + kick-ass band + gorgeous instruments + great song + recording the way it should be done = The Furious Sessions with Maika Makovski, an immense pleasure.

This is now our 11th session. While finding a slot in Maika Makovski‘s busy schedule proved difficult, we must say it was well worth it. When you find yourself with great artists like these guys, who, as well as mind-blowing musicians, are lovely people, easy to get along with and approachable, the end result palpates in the session.

Maika Makovski and her band, a veritable clock, unveiled the track Avoiding You from their recently released album Desaparecer. With David Martínez on the drums, Juan Carlos Luque on double bass and Oskar Benas on guitar.

When we caught sight of Maika Makovski‘s Dobro we thought, “The hell is this guitar-shaped tin can?”, and, for the record, it weighs a crapload. But when she began plucking it, we learned that this tin can makes a sound like…, like…, I don’t know what. And Maika’s voice in this The Furious Sessions sounds broken, fragile, yet resonates with mettle only she can conjure up. Melancholic yet forceful. Two contradictory and complementary feelings at the same time. And in Avoiding You, the band underpins these feelings to perfection.
