Refree is the cult project of Raül Fernandez, one of the most renowned producers in Spain. Among his collaborations are artists of the calibre of Kiko Veneno, La Mala Rodríguez, Christina Rosenvingue and Silvia Pérez Cruz. In the lasts months he has been working with Lee Ranaldo on some sessions recorded in Barcelona and recently released.
Refree is the project where Raül expresses his creative preoccupations with total freedom. In his last five records, each one fundamentally different from the other, (from Mediterranean song, to orchestrated pop and even free-jazz), Refree has developed a career that is unique in Spain and has become one of the most recognized cult artists in the eyes of the specialised public. His new record Nova Creu Alta is much more eclectic, going from the most lysergic psychedelia to rock riffs, it is as if Marc Ribot were playing Black Sabbath’s guitars.
Different influences and baroque arrangements flood this record that has one foot in the late 60s and another in the early 70s but it sounds modern. It is an album that is closely linked to the current social moment that his country is living, both for the aggressiveness of its sound and for the forcefulness of its lyrics that denounce the evils of a society in total decadence.
